Really suspecting progression. Possible changes planned

For the past week I have been experiencing really weird behavior with my RGP contacts. One day I would be able to wear them all day and the next I can’t seem to tolerate having them in longer then 3 hours. The day after I again can wear the RGP contacts all day.

This issue is only to my Right eye and I have been noticing while still working good the contacts dont seem to work quite as effective as they were but at the same time the difference was marginal. Overall with how the right contact is behaving i am suspecting that my keratoconus in my right eye might be progressing a little.

The past winter was a pretty bad time for me in terms of dryness as well. I am in just under a month undergoing cataract surgery and I think it may be time to move on to Hybrid or scleral contacts this should alleviate the issues i have been having.

I also plan on getting the right eye checked out to see if my right eye is indeed progressing and if so if my doctor would still recommend undergoing collagen cross linking on my right eye.

My Cataract Surgery has finally gotten Rescheduled

Just got the call from Wolfe Eye Clinic informing me that they are ready to reschedule me for Cataract surgery.

The Surgery has been scheduled for June 22 at 10 am. I am pleased that things are finally going forward and things are starting to become more normal.

I will also be getting tested for Covid-19 and have to self quarantine 10 days prior to surgery but its a small price to pay for the safety of myself and others involved with this surgery.

Finally get to make progress of my eye situation and hope this will improve things dramatically.

Cataract surgery canceled for now

With the spread of the corona virus all nonessential surgeries have been canceled. This was expected but was hoping that it would have been just past the recommended 3 weeks that this wouldn’t have been effected.

Hopefully things get resolved soon and i can get back to making progress on pursuing a career opportunity. Although disappointing it would be in bad taste with the medical supply shortage to go ahead with this while depriving someone who’s live could have been saved had they had as much as a face mask that would have prevented them from something.

My cataract is confirmed and will be having surgery

As of today the existence of my cataract is confirmed. I am surprised that it isn’t effecting my vision any worse than it is being that the cataract is right in the center of my lens.

My left eye’s cornea graft is still in great shape and thanks for the DALK transplant my Endothelium (the lower layer of the cornea) of which wasn’t transplanted survived the transplant unscathed thus eliminating the additional risks of having cataract surgery.

My right eye is still perfectly clear. No indication that my keratoconus is getting worse.

Surgery is currently scheduled April 8, 2020

Today Marks 3 years anniversary of my Cornea Transplant

Janurary 23 2017 was the day of my cornea transplant at Mercy Medical Center performed by Wolfe Eye Clinic.

This makes today my 3 year anniversary. So far things are going strong still as there are no signs of rejection thus far.

I would like to thank everyone who are generous enough to make things like this possible by donating their organs/corneas to those in need after an unimaginable tragedy that has happened to them.

I will always be grateful for such gracious generosity despite such hard times for them.

Now I have a cataract

Recently it hit me while I was regularly going to my vision appointments for my contacts that it didn’t necessarily mean that I was getting regular full comprehensive eye exams.

So after determining that Wolfe Eye Clinic being a specialty clinic and not a general clinic I made an appointment at Miller’s Family Eye Care where my keratoconus journey started.

Today I had the appointment and was rather shocked to see that I have a sizable cataract in my left eye.

I got really nervous to the point that I went to the receptionist asking for a referral to the Cataract specialist at Wolfe Eye Clinic when I was supposed to do it at the checkout area without thinking.

After doing some reading on cataract development post cornea transplant. I have discovered that there has been evidence linking to the procedure and the drops used being linked to the development of cataracts.

I just wish that I was informed of the possibility of developing a cataract so that I would be on the lookout for such a development. I still would have consented to the procedure.

Three years ago today was the day that I had the appointment at the cornea specialist at Wolfe Eye Clinic and got the diagnosis of keratoconus confirmed.

It was at this point I learned my left eye would need a cornea transplant and I got my first pair of glasses set up.

Three years ago was the day that I was diagnosed with keratoconus. Although it wasn’t the time that my specialist at Wolfe eye clinic it was the day that I had the appointment at Millers Family Eye Care that lead the diagnosis and referral to Wolfe eye clinic to confirm.

Today Marks Yet Another Milestone

As of today it has been my first year of wearing contacts. These are specialty RGP contacts as opposed to traditional Soft Contacts.

Things are going great despite hitting a roadblock but a simple switch of solution overcame it. I am able to get by without any additional rewetting drops most days with general comfort.

While the stability of my left contact has been successfully managed for the most part. My changing careers from the IT field to Manufacturing has me a bit concerned about the need to switch to scleral contacts but I will deal with that when the time comes.
