Tomorrow is my next appointment

Tomorrow is my next big appointment.

I will also be finding out if its best for me to stick with glasses or to get contact lenses. I kind of hope I get to keep using glasses as I’m kind of nervous with the prospect of getting the dang contacts in my eye reliably.

This will be my first appointment since the remainder of the sutures have been removed.

One week until my next appointment

Nearing that time again I am one week away from my next appointment.

I will be seeing my cornea doctor as well as their doctor that deals with lenses/contacts fitting. It will then be determined if glasses or contacts would be my best option.

Kinda hoping that I get to stick with glasses as just can’t see how I can get them in easily and I have grown into the preference of glasses.

Today I have reached a milestone.

Today marks my one year anniversary for my  cornea transplant. The date of said cornea transplant was January 23, 2017.

A month ago I was anticipating having two sutures remaining. However to my surprise i had all four remaining sutures removed thus making my recovery quicker.

While it would appear that I may have lost out on the cornea lottery as the level of astigmatism is higher then my doctor would have liked. At least my vision is still actually usable and can still be corrected with glasses or contacts as well as avoiding a tear in the cornea which would have meant I would have had to take the full thickness cornea transplant and would have had a worse outcome then a partial thickness transplant would have provided.

My next big milestone will be when it becomes time to get off of my anti rejection eye drops as at that point i’ll probably declaring myself fully recovered from my cornea transplant.

My Appointment went Better then expected and got a nice suprise

My appointment was today and things went well. The vision test portion of my left eye was showing a decent improvement despite thinking my vision of the left eye didn’t seem to change. It went a lot better then my last test.

Furthermore I was expecting to have two sutures removed leaving two behind for my next appointment. It turns out the doctor seemed fit to remove all four sutures remaining in the eye.

My astigmatism is a bit higher then the doctor was hoping for but its not surprising given that cornea transplants and cpu’s have this in common. Your operating on a lottery system. In the cpu world each individual cpu can be a little different in terms of ability to overclock due to the quality fluctuations of silicon. This means that some cpu’s can be overclocked more then others.

This relates to cornea transplants as only your original cornea was made for your eye specifically and every other cornea being transplanted can leave different results depending on how close of a match you happen to get.

Aside from my 4 times a day for 3 days for my antibiotic drops my anti rejection drops are reduced to 1 time a day again as well. Overall healing is going smoothly and getting closer to the edge of the time frame where the majority of cornea rejections occur (while rejection can happen anytime they tend to happen within the first 18 months)

So I’m out on my walk and it hit me

So I’m out on my walk and it occurred to me that this New Years will be the first time in ages that I won’t be having real champagne.

Giving that I’m still recovering from my cornea transplant and still on anti rejection drops I refuse to let anything put me at risk of rejection and that means no alcohol. Maybe in 2019 will be different.

Only four more sutures to go!
