A few eye drops doses later and im doing better

After having a few rounds of eye drops i am finding myself able to fully open my eye untill it starts getting too watery. I was given 3 typeps of drops an anti bacterial drop Vigamox then Prendisone Acutate, and a Tears drop.

Given that My eyes are being very very watery I have been skipping the Tears drop. At the rate things are going now i will probably start the Tears drops on my next round as its not getting nearly as watery.

And the surgery

Janurary 23rd was the surgery I was going to have  DALK or PK cornea transplant the latter being if ithe cornea layers couldn’t safely separate. Thankfully they did as going with a DALK is going to give me a much better outcome overall. I was expecting pain for the rest of the night as thats what i  have read from other people’s experience with thier cornea transplants especially from a guy who also got to do the DALK route. I consider myself blessed to have only to deal with the itchiness from the stitches that are in my eye. Was totally expecting moderate to severe pain for the first night of the surgery.

This is my nice temporary patch I have to keep on until my first appointment.

The Day Of the Surgery

So woke up took a shower then called the register to check in. Things were going swimmingly but then 20 mins past the time i was to check in was never called. So i called the register again to inqure as i was growing increasingly nervous and was unsure what to do as there was no fromal place to check in or anything. Turns out they only had  one of my 2 forms of health insurance on file and had a old number on file so regardless was a a good idea i called. I have no idea why the first one didnt verify the insurance details .

The Night Before Surgery!

So as i was doing loads of research as what i am to be expecting. Ant it would appear that I was researchign the wrong freaken prosecure i was researching DSEK when i should ahve been researching DALK. I also was a bit worry about the claims of increased risk of glocoma as a result of how the DSEK worked.  Was really relieved though As i didnt think id be able to handle a full month of sitting on my back with my face straight up whenever possible lol also found some blogs of other peoples experiences with the DALK procedure.

When I was sleeping i had a dream where i was just waking up from anestesia and i started repeatedly saying “Quack Quack” and the surgeon came in to check on me and i looked at him and let out a long “QUUUUACK!”” then i immmediately apologized profusely and i woke up from the dream. No real explanation of the dream

Tragedy Narrowly averted

So Thursday came and had phone in hand waiting for the phone to ring. The phone never rang 10 minutes after the set time. I went to check voicemail to find they had called me 5 minutes before i heard the message and immediately called them. Thankfully I called in time and was immediately transferrred over to the PASE nurse and sucessfully completed the appointment. All thats left is to call into the register before the actual surgery.

And a sigh of relief

Passed the physical and the doctors seemed ok with the fact that I was going to have surgery at Mercy Hospital and would cooperate. This relieved the majority of my worries and only have to wait for my PASE appointment over the phone on Thursday Januwary 19

A week away from surgery and getting nervous

So monday January 16 I have my Pre Op Physical at Unity Point West Side Urgent care and the main reason I am so nervous is because of the fear that Unity Point wouldn’t Cooperate with Mercy and I would have to have my Surgery rescheduled while i got a mercy doctor setup.

Which if you are into the latest political occurrences you may realize that health care is currently under attack and a delay could have easily prevented me from getting the surgery altogether if things went bad enough.

Welcome to my blog

Hi my name is Jeremiah Wenzel I’m 31 years old and as of July 11, 2016 I was diagnosed with keratoconus in both of my eyes. I am into pretty much all things IT related and gaming. I love tinkering with servers and Linux distributions My current Desktop is ran by Fedora though I also love arch Linux and FreeBSD. My server is running FreeBSD. This blog will be covering my progress of recovery from a recent Surgery that i have had February 23, 2017.

Unfortunately it was too late to do anything other then having a cornea transplant on my Left eye My right eye can be saved from such an operation if i can get Corneal Cross Linking. Corneal cross linking procedures was only approved by the FDA a few months ago despite the rest of the world successfully using the procedure for over a decade. This is quite frustrating as if the United States would just not drag their feet on everything I probably wouldn’t be in this shape provided i discovered this sooner. Hopefully insurance will start covering the procedure before its too late for my Right Eye.

This site is still under construction as i only recently got the idea to set this up Thank You for your patience.
